Position
Summary:

  • Provides nursing leadership for assigned unit and shift ensuring smooth, efficient, and effective operations.
  • Supervises and mentors nursing and support staff during assigned shift.
  • Determines staffing level and assignments based on staff availability, staff abilities, census, patient acuity and work/patient flow.
  • Responsible for the processes of assessment, reassessment, establishment of nursing diagnoses, formulation of the written plan of care, implementation of care, and evaluation of care.
  • Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
  • Responsible for staff discipline while on duty; monitors staff members (work performance) output, offering solutions to improve performance.
  • Coordinates accurate calculation of patient acuity and workload (staffing) data and makes assignments accordingly.
  • Responds to complaints about patient care and related services, and manages through established channels.
  • Remains visible in the department to physicians and staff members; sets priorities and insures completion of care for all assigned patients.
  • Ensures staff has necessary equipment and supplies to provide safe, quality patient care; allocates resources to keep continuous flow of patient care.
  • Integrates evidence-based practices into operations and clinical protocols.
  • Creates and fosters an environment that encourages professional growth.

Minimum
Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse from the Virginia Board of Nursing or compact state required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) American Heart Association required
  • Previous one (1) year of experience in acute care hospital setting required
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) American Heart Association required, or within six (6) months of hire
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) American Heart Association OR Emergency Nurse Pediatric Certification
  • (ENPC) Emergency Nurse Association required, or within six (6) months of hire
  • Trauma Nurse Certification Course (TNCC) Emergency Nurse Association preferred
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
